Where the Water Falls

She has stepped just past the curtains, close enough to feel the mist on her skin. Below, a waterfall pours through a hidden green ravine, and a small house rests on the cliffside above it — half-hidden in bougainvillea, someone's whole quiet life tucked into the hills. She is dressed for a warmer memory than the one she is standing in.

This piece lives in the pause before arrival: the last private moment before a place becomes familiar, painted in the soft greens and mineral blues of somewhere far from home.
