The Quiet Between Ripples

She has waded in just far enough for the water to hold her, sitting perfectly still while the ripples she made travel out across the lake and fade. Pine-covered mountains stand watch on the far shore; nothing here is in a hurry.

This piece is about the kind of solitude that isn't lonely — the private, unremarkable moments we rarely let anyone see, painted with the same quiet respect the subject gave the water.
